War Testimony /

The life of my little family was beginning: it had been almost a year since my husband and I got married. He finally returned home from abroad, where he was employed, and found an exciting job (he is a scientist). My son was four months old, and we rented an apartment that looked out on the sea. Every morning we would wake up at :, drink coffee, have breakfast and watch the ships enter the port. Then one morning, we woke up to explosions - one after another. February , : am. It's still dark outside. My heart jumped out of my chest from fear. My child beside me slept so soundly that she didn't even wake up. My husband reassured me, saying that it was a dream. And in my head was only: "Has the war started? Were the Americans right?" Somehow we fell asleep. As usual, we woke up at :; I made coffee. When a friend writes to me: we are packing and leaving. -Where? - I ask. And she told me: read the news, the war has started. It was like a blow on the head... I went with my child to my parents. Constant anxiety. The news is disappointing. Frequent air alert signals. They don't turn on the lights on the street at night. I waited with horror for the night to come. I saw on my phone - an air alarm in the area - I start to shake. I hear buzzing outside the window - an enemy plane is flying. I hold my child closer, prepare to cover him with my body and pray incessantly until the plane flies by. "Thank you, God, that the bomb was not dropped, that we are alive." And then, one day, an acquaintance on the street says: tanks are already approaching the city. Horror gripped my whole body; I hastily ran home with the stroller. The travel bag is already at the door. They captured us quietly. They did not shoot. Since then, everything has been different. We are under occupation. My child and I live with my parents in a nearby town. My husband lost his job and stayed with his mother. He is looking for at least some part-time work, but it's all in vain. We can no longer live together - no funds to rent an apartment. My husband comes to us once a week. Since March, I have stopped receiving payments for the child ( hryvnias/month), and I cannot do anything. There is a shortage of everything; prices are sky-high. And what a terrible quality of products and medicine on the shelves! Once a month, we stand in lines for humanitarian aid - diapers and two cans of baby food - this is what the volunteers secretly transported through dozens of enemy checkpoints, and are trying to distribute to all those in need. It is scary to leave the house with a phone - and if they pick it up, they will see something Ukrainian there... What will happen then... It is scary that they will come to our house. It's scary that my husband wears his camouflage uniform to work, and could be shot. It is terrible that the man will be detained at the checkpoints when he comes to see us. It's scary to "look at them the wrong way." It's scary, but what will happen next? And then everything gets worse. They were not called here. Why are they here? They kill, and they "liberate" us from normal life. Why should I go and seek a better life? This is my home! My Ukraine! Ukrainian is lighter. Ukrainian is tastier. Ukrainian is more native. We are waiting for our boys! Glory to Ukraine!
