War Testimony /

When the war started, I was overcome with panic and fear. Fear is not for yourself but for the children. Where to run to survive and where to hide from shots and explosions. We began to quickly collect things, documents, food and water for the first time. On the morning of February , several explosions were heard in our city. It was a horror! The children were scared and cried. But I pulled myself together and reassured them that everything would be fine. Then it was quiet and peaceful for several days. There was not even an alarm. On the fourth day of the war, at half past six in the morning, there was the first alarm. During this time, I arranged a safe place in the apartment where you can hide since the storage is far away. I quietly woke the eldest son and ordered him to go somewhere safe. I carried my younger daughter quietly sleeping. After that, I heard explosions somewhere not far from us. There was not much panic. Fear for yourself, your children and the people in our city. But everything was fine. I pulled myself together and calmed down. Because I have to be strong in front of my children. With every anxiety, we always hide in our storage, which I have arranged in the apartment according to the rules of two walls. Currently, our city is more or less safe. But all the same, there is fear and foreboding that there may be shelling at night and during the day. Sometimes there are even thoughts of leaving your home, hometown and country to save your children. But all the same, thoughts about relatives and loved ones, who are always there, and love for the native country are an advantage to staying at home. Thanks to our soldiers who protect us, we sleep peacefully. Currently, I try to watch less TV news, so there is no panic. I try to spend more time playing with my children. We read and cook together. We also try not to bring up the topic of the war with children and not to discuss the situation in the country. Because children perceive it very badly, this is a stress for them. Many immigrants have arrived in our city. There are many children among them. We were very happy to help them with clothes and shoes and some food. When it is calm in our city, and there is no anxiety, we go for a walk with friends to the playground. But we are also distracted from the war. It is a pity for the people, especially the children, who died at the hands of the occupiers. And it is very, very scary for those cities under occupation—realizing that people will never return to their old life before the war when everything was calm. You want to cry all the time, and you think about how to make it happen to them because now they are much more afraid than I am in my hometown, where it is calm now. We are no longer so calm about different sounds. For example, when a group car drives down the road and hits a pothole, there are sounds like something has exploded somewhere. And when it is also at night, jumping out of bed, without understanding, grabs the children and hides. Because there are arrivals without alarms. But we are already used to it. Now I listen very, very, very closely to all sounds. I always reassure myself that victory is ours, and every day it is getting closer and closer.
