War Testimony /
[CITY] was occupied on March , . Since then, there has been no peace in the city. Constant fear intensified in the hearts of people and children in the city, and almost half of the city was evacuated. For the first few months, people gathered for rallies and were not afraid that the occupiers had weapons. Over time everything calmed down, and people began to get used to their situation. I was really starting to get upset. I go out into the city and watch as pensioners and mothers with children stand in lines to receive humanitarian aid from the Russian Federation and to receive passports. There is simply nothing left for people; there is no help from the state, and the green corridor is not allowed. Supermarkets and pharmacies with Crimean goods and medicines were opened in the city. Citizens have begun to turn against Ukraine, Russian news is shown on television channels, and people are hypnotized into thinking that Ukraine is attacking us. People began to get used to the situation, and many were already convinced that the city was surrendered even in the early days of the war. I am a single mother with two children, but my financial situation did not allow me to leave the city. In the first months, I ran around the city with my mother every day in search of food and medicine, even when they were under fire. The children were left alone at home every day from : a.m. to : p.m. Rockets were constantly flying over the city and, explosions were heard, a lot of shrapnel flew into our yard, some weighing about kilograms. When children hear explosions, they hide under the bed or climb into the bathroom. The occupiers walk and drive around the city as if they were at home, checking documents, visiting apartments and scaring children. Children are afraid to go outside. Since February, my children don't even go out on the balcony. They are afraid that something will fly again. Emotional tension increases every day, and apathy toward everything happening in the city begins. My assumption is that soon everyone will get used to the fact that [CITY] will no longer be Ukraine. Pensioners have stopped receiving pensions, and they have no way to buy products, and they have no choice but to go and accept help from the Russian Federation, and in order to receive help, they require their passports, rewrite all the data and issue vouchers for humanitarian aid and force them to issue a Russian passport. They turned off all mobile communications and started selling Russian SIM cards only with passport data, and then they were going to use these data to hold a referendum in the city, so they forced us to accept their conditions. Now the city is very uneasy, our armed forces are approaching the outskirts of the city, and the occupiers are beginning to fear and oppress the population even more. Inspections and shelling inside the city intensified, and people again began to spend the night in basements and bomb shelters. Only a month ago, my children began to climb up from the basement. They slept, ate and played there. Now they started preparing the basement again. It's very hard. I don't know how all this birth in the country will further affect my children and me. Constant headaches from malnutrition and emotional stress had a great impact on my body. I lost a lot of weight and now weigh kg. God grant that this will end quickly. I really want to see how my children will grow up.
