War Testimony /

The war began for my family and me with the frightened cry of my youngest son to the sounds of explosions outside the window. This moment was one of the most terrible since the beginning of the war. It's scary to feel helpless, to understand that every next minute can be as unpredictable as possible. It's difficult for the children; in principle, it's the worst. I have four children, two pairs of twins. The older boys are five years old, and the younger girls and boys are two years old. So, the moment when I realized that the war had started, I did not understand where to run or what to do to protect my children. We live in a large residential complex. Half an hour after the explosions, many of our neighbours left their apartments very hastily, with bags and children on the overhang. I stood by the window watching them, and my panic only intensified. I understood that there was nowhere for us to run, we had practically no money for the road, and it was not at all clear whether there would be safety anywhere. I opened the news. They were filled with reports of explosions and destruction across the country ... Perhaps the morning of February , , was the worst morning of my life. It is already the fifth month of the war, and we have experienced more than one terrible day. I have never thought in my life that I would see and feel for myself all the "charm" of this awful time. For me, the word war was more like a word from a history textbook, but now it is my reality. We had so many plans and hopes for this year. Very soon, my older children will turn six in less than three weeks. As a family, we had to celebrate this day at sea and travel around our country. We had to choose a school backpack and notebooks, try on a school uniform and prepare for a new life... the older children would have crossed the threshold of the school. My younger ones would have gone to kindergarten... but unfortunately, the new life came a few months earlier and not as they imagined it... Their new life consists of sirens, military equipment, explosions and fear. Instead of learning to read and write at school, they learned to gather in a shelter quickly. My younger child learned what it is and what it looks like tanks, helicopters and the military. Still, I had to learn elementary things in kindergarten... One morning radically changed our lives, destroyed plans and taught me how to live differently... Fortunately, unlike many other women in our country, I can embrace my children and husband. We are together, alive... Many things that seemed important to me before the war were just empty sounds or a rag that did not know anything. I have never felt hatred or great love for the country that attacked us. It was just a country across the border from ours where the same families lived as ours. We all lived our lives...but this life was peaceful until ...the year when we found out that our neighbours were not as peaceful and friendly as it seemed to us that shared history and common achievements are not a guarantee of friendship. Now those who said that the brotherly peoples wanted would simply destroy us. One person's will become more than one thousand deaths and mutilated souls. That's how, in one day, the president of a neighbouring country destroyed millions of destinies with his decree. Now I am writing these words to the sound of the beginning of anxiety and no less than war. What scares me is that I, my family and the people around me are getting used to such a life. The neighbours who fled from their homes that terrible morning is returning. Life goes on, and we are trying to survive and get used to what we have... no, we didn't give up and didn't accept this situation. We just live and believe that soon it will all end, that we will be able to endure and peaceful life will come, and that everything will end like a terrible dream. I really want to believe that soon everything will change, and we will live and not fear for our safety, that my children may not be in this, but already in the next school year, they will go to their first grade and the youngest group of kindergarten. I want everything to be over and these terrible days not to linger in the memory of my children so that they forget them and never know more. If only we would all stay close, alive and healthy! PS I have only learned the other side. We are beginning to appreciate simple things. A simple, calm morning and a peaceful breakfast, which once seemed commonplace, have gained actual value.
