War Testimony /

Me and the war: my experience. My thoughts and experiences after the start of the full-scale war February is the day that changed my whole life and turned it upside down. I woke up from my grandmother's crying and her words that I should quickly get dressed and go down to the basement because the war had just started, and I could already hear the first explosions in [CITY]. At that moment, I had no thoughts and no plan of action at all; I was so confused that I did not want to believe what I was hearing. The first days were challenging, both mentally and physically. Hourly "runs" from the basement to home and vice versa, constant explosions and columns of enemy equipment deprived me of hope for the best. Time dragged on for a long time, and the days seemed eternal. The only thing that saved me from evil thoughts was a phone conversation with my mother and my beloved dog [NAME], who warmed me with its love and fur. How I managed on April is another day that I will never forget — the day when we managed to leave the controlled territory of Ukraine. Only then could I let go of the situation a little and exhale? Only then, when I breathed "free" air, did I feel that I was really living and not existing. The constant search for a more or less safe way out was extremely tiring, but I always remembered my mother and relatives, who wanted to see me alive and healthy. My feelings now I can't say that it has become much easier for me. Many of my relatives and close people are still under occupation, they are transgressing every day because of themselves and their desires, but they have no other option than to sit and wait for liberation. I once heard the following phrase: "[CITY] is a city that sleeps and swears." And so it is because of one wrong word that you become missing. Little by little, less and less remains of my house, now windows, then plate glass... And I don't know if I will have a place to return to or if I will ever see my loved ones again. But I believe in our victory, our boys fighting for freedom and a peaceful sky. Therefore, I am glad I will soon return to my native and Ukrainian cities of [CITY, CITY and CITY]. Keywords: confusion, fatigue, experiences, relatives, family.
