War Testimony /
War. We were not prepared for it: neither my family, nor school, nor society. It came. And we have changed: all together, and each separately. As for me, the realization that war is a new reality did not come immediately. Every news from the front was accompanied by an internal struggle for hope and common sense. Reality has won, in which you have to think instantly and to such a critical extent as ever before. My concern for my relatives grows every day because I am a mother, and I am not devoid of compassion for others. I find it hard. It is difficult to read news from Bucha, Mariupol, from the front. It's hard because you can't stop it. It's difficult because I don't understand how I can be useful. It's hard because it's outside the "normal" limit. And the meaning of normality itself has changed in recent months. Today, the absence of bad is normal. As for the rest, in the conditions of martial law and constant nervous tension, I learned to breathe with a full chest. I learned to walk without haste so that every morning on the way to work, I would mentally pray and thank God that I was alive... How little a person needs for life: close relatives, a peaceful sky and infinite faith. I realized this quite clearly. I have walked the same road for over twenty years, almost every day. The puddle at the beginning of the road that connects my street with the central one has always pissed me off. Especially after the bombings, because it spilled from one fence to another, which made my way much more difficult. After alarming news about a possible attack from Belarus, I scrolled through a possible plan of action in which I took the children from their native home to the village. And I already missed the house, the yard, the garden and that damn puddle. The war taught us to set priorities and live for today, not for a ghostly tomorrow, to appreciate, to be, to live, to say "on time" and not "someday, another time." And I also learned to get an incredible thrill from the fact that through donating, collecting humanitarian aid and weaving camouflage nets, I become a small part of our Joint VICTORY. Proud to be Ukrainian. Thank God I'm not a Muscovite.
